Former CPS Leader Has Comprehensive Plan to Protect Young Chicagoans
In the wake of a disturbing report by WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times that detailed the rising threat of violence near city schools, mayoral candidate Paul Vallas is releasing a comprehensive Youth Violence Reduction Plan designed to protect young Chicagoans. The former CEO of Chicago Public Schools, Vallas has a unique understanding of how government entities, nonprofit organizations and families can work together cohesively to reduce the threat of violence that young residents face.

“Kids in Chicago deserve to be able to go to school, see their friends and enjoy being young without worrying about the threat of violence,” said Vallas. “As Mayor, I will implement a comprehensive youth violence reduction strategy designed to save lives and preserve the incredible potential that exists in our young residents.”
Highlights of Vallas’ plan include:
Working with the school system to implement violence reduction strategies at the early intervention, juvenile, restorative curriculum and high school levels
Partnering with community organizations, faith leaders and healthcare practitioners to steer those involved away from crime and violence
Establishing an overarching partnership with “returning citizen” support organization to scale with violence interruption
